“The goal of Polish Presidency is to get the European Union back to the track of development in a determined and rapid manner – in this context cohesion policy will be helpful”. said minister Elżbieta Bieńkowska. Minister Bieńkowska was invited to attend the sitting of the Committee on Regional Development, by its Chairman, Professor Danuta Hübner.
During discussion with the members of the Committee, Minister Bieńkowska reinforced that, the most important tasks in this area will focus on negotiations on the regulations related to cohesion policy.
Among the issues that will require more attention from the Polish Presidency are such issues as: creation of a new instrument, the so-called European connection facilities, intermediate category of regions, territorial cooperation, urban policy, macro-regional strategy.
Important for the Polish presidency will be a meeting of the General Affairs Council meeting 16 December 2011 with the presence of ministers responsible for cohesion policy.
minister Bieńkowska said that, cohesion policy is the only instrument for implementation of the Strategy Europe 2020 and the policy can bring the Strategy to concrete results.
Members of the Committee, emphasized the importance attached to the cohesion policy by the Polish Presidency. "This is good Presidency for the time being”, said Jan Olbrycht.
During the discussion issues related to the multiannual financial framework and of cohesion policy, cooperation between the Polish presidency of the trio, namely Denmark and Cyprus, as well as strategy for the Baltic Sea region and conditionality were covered.
Professor Danuta Hübner assured that the European Parliament will urge the Commission to adopt specific regulations concerning cohesion policy until the end of September.
