Two-day session of the Committee on Regional Development, November 30, 2010

Professor Danuta Hübner will chair the two-day session of the Commiette for Regional Development. During the session, a discussion with Mikel Landabaso (the director of the department for thematic coordination and innovation of the DG REGIO in European Commission) will take place on the topic of the influence of cohesion policy on smart growth.
The ministers will deal with the challenges for territorial cooperation and with the schedule of cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation.
Voting on the following four reports are on the agenda:
1. Going beyond GDP. A measure of progress in a changing world
2. The EU strategy for the Black Sea region
3. Implementing the directive on services in the internal market - 2006/123/WE
4. Industrial policy in an era of globalization
During the REGI meeting a discussion with the representatives of the Clichy-sous-Bois associations will take place on the issues concerning urbanization and housing.
On December 1, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. the state of works and future synergy for increased effectiveness of cooperation of the European Regional Development Fund with other structural funds will be discussed.

Exchange of views on contribution of Cohesion Policy to smart growth
On Tuesday, 30.11.10 Mikel Landabaso, Head of the Unit "Thematic coordination, innovation" at European Commission DG REGIO will meet the REGI Committee to elaborate on the EC Communication "Contribution of Cohesion Policy to Smart Growth"

On Tuesday, 30.11.10 the REGI Committee will vote on the following draft opinions:
• "GDP and beyond - Measuring progress in a changing world ", (Draftsman: Jean-Paul Besset, Verts/ALE);
• "An EU Strategy for the Black Sea", (Draftsman: Victor Boştinaru, S&D),
• "The implementation of the Services Directive 2006/123/EC", (Draftswoman: Filiz Hakaeva Hyusmenova, ALDE),
• "An Industrial Policy for the Globalised Era", (Draftsman: Francesco De Angelis, S&D)
Exchange of views on the EU Cohesion Policy response to the economic crises
On Wednesday, 01.12.10 Rudolf Niessler, Director for Policy Co-ordination at the European Commission's Directorate General for Regional Policy will present to the Members of the REGI Committee the European Commission's staff working paper - "Cohesion Policy: Responding to the economic crisis".
Hearing on The place of Europe's towns and cities in Cohesion Policy
On Wednesday, 01.12.10, the Committee on Regional Development will hold a public hearing on "The place of Europe's towns and cities in Cohesion Policy". Several guests have been invited to express their views on the subject and participate in the debate with the Members of the Committee.
