Professor Danuta Hübner’s comments:
We accepted two proposals aiming to aid the Polish enterprises which were touched by the economic and financial crisis. The support – 747,000 euro from the European Globalization Adjustment Fund as part of the 2010 budget – will be devoted to helping 747 workers who lost their jobs in Great Poland enterprises, from H.Cegielski-Poznań (189 workers given financial aid for the amount of 114,250 euro), and from companies of Automotive Polska (590 workers will receive aid for the amount of 633,077 euro).
For many reasons this is a crucial decision, because it is the first time that aid has been granted to Poland. It must be taken advantage of effectively towards creating new jobs. There is another aspect of this aid: its human dimension. Especially in times of the European crisis this fund meets its objectives and proves that the European Union does not leave those who most harshly suffer the consequences of the crisis.
The funds granted to Poland will go to the Ministry of Regional Development, which is responsible for implementing the aid.
The European Globalization Adjustment Fund was established in 2006 with the aim of helping those workers who lost their jobs during the economic and financial crisis, to return to the job market. The fund contains 500,000 euro annualy.
