Serbia, 22-23 April 2008
Danuta Hübner, Commissioner for Regional Policy, visited Serbia on 22-23 April 2008. Her visit started in Belgrade with a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic. They discussed prospects for further cooperation with the EU through the new Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA), which will help to enhance Serbia’s European perspective. On the second day the Commissioner visited travel to Kragujevac, one of the towns which has progressed the furthest in terms of Regional Development. There, Ms Hübner and Mr Djelic issued a joint statement on the development of regional policy and territorial co-operation. This event was follwoed by a lecture at the University of Kragujevac, entitled: 'Serbia's contribution to a prosperous Europe'. Before her departure, the Commissioner was received by the President of Serbia, Mr Boris Tadic.
