Wzrost I konkurencyjność odpowiedzią na europejski kryzys., 23 czerwca 2010

Profesor Danuta Hübner uważa, że odpowiedzią na europejski kryzys powinien być gospodarczy wzrost i konkurencyjność. Dużą rolę do odegrania będzie miała także polityka spójności.
Okazją do zaprezentowania stanowiska niektórych członków specjalnej komisji ds. kryzysu w PE było spotkanie z dziennikarzami w celu przedstawienia prac nad raportem komisji, w sprawie kryzysu finansowego, ekonomicznego i społecznego. Glosowanie nad raportem przewidywane jest w ciągu najbliższych miesięcy.

"The crisis in Europe poses many challenges, such as the need to accelerate financial system reforms, design the path towards fiscal consolidation without suffocating growth and the need to build sound economic governance," said Danuta Hübner, chairperson of the Committee of Regional Development in the European Parliament and member of the Financial, Economic and Social Crisis Committee in the EP (CRIS), "all those reforms, important as they are, are not substitutes for structural change and competitive growth policies."

Yesterday the EPP Group members of the CRIS committee met to discuss some of the crucial aspects of the final report due to be voted next month. Danuta Hübner spoke about the contribution of cohesion policy to the economic recovery. According to Mrs Hübner the private sector is still not taking over responsibility for growth, therefore policies facilitating growth are needed. As more will need to be done with less public money, improving efficiency of public spending.

"Cohesion policy has strongly contributed to crisis exit strategy. It has provided links between short term investments and long term growth objectives".

With regards to the EU2020 strategy, Danuta Hübner recommends the Cohesion policy as an important delivery mechanism of the strategy. She believes that main objectives of the EU2020 are already earmarked in the Cohesion policy. For the programming period 2007-2013, it focuses on public infrastructure, energy, European efficiency, and new skills.

"Cohesion policy's strengths come from its three basic characteristics: it sets strategic guidelines that are conditions for the resources to be transferred and they are binding both for Member States and regions; it leaves space for Member States and regions to tailor interventions to the specificity of places; and it has a machinery to monitor and support in achieving goals," Danuta Hübner concluded.
