Profesor stwierdziła, że "Parlament Europejski nie będzie szczędził siły, żeby zapewnić o roli, jaką polityka spójności odgrywa w stymulowaniu wzrostu, tworzeniu nowych miejsc pracy i podnoszeniu konkurencyjności w gospodarce europejskiej".

Prior to the informal meeting of the European Council on Monday, Danuta Hübner (EPP, PL), Chair of Parliament's Committee on Regional Development, stressed the importance and potential of the cohesion policy as "irreplaceable investment and growth tool" of the Union. "European Parliament will spare no efforts to ensure that the cohesion policy plays its role in triggering growth, creating jobs and improving competitiveness of European economy," she said.
Mrs Hübner noted that cohesion policy has shown its capacity to contribute to the growth through European Economic Recovery Package in 2008. "The challenge now is to make the best usage of the funds still available to enhance sustainable job-creation and growth", the REGI Committee Chair said, adding that "the European Parliament has used and will not hesitate to use all its powers to enhance the role of cohesion policy in the time of crisis". She recalled that Parliament agreed in autumn 2011 in a record time to raise the co-financing rates for Member States in macro-economic difficulties, thus allowing to concentrate funds on crucial projects and to reduce pressure on national budgets.
"We are now working hard to create a risk sharing instrument which would further allow boosting the anti-crisis role of the cohesion policy. This needs to be adopted urgently to overcome the credit crunch in the most affected countries. I hope the Council will join us in making of this proposal a top priority," Mr Hübner said.
